unnamed pipe -
A circular buffer, created
in memory, used by related processes to communicate with one another. Contrast
with named pipe.
unordered list -
In Information Presentation Facility, a vertical
arrangement of items in a list, with each item in the list preceded by a
special character or bullet.
update region
-
A system-provided area of dynamic storage containing
one or more (not necessarily contiguous) rectangular areas of a window that
are visually invalid or incorrect, and therefore are in need of repainting.
user interface -
Hardware,
software, or both that allows a user to interact with and perform operations
on a system, program, or device.
User Shell
-
A component of OS/2 that uses a graphics-based,
windowed interface to allow the user to manage applications and files installed
and running under OS/2.
utility program -
(1) A computer program in general support of computer
processes; for example, a diagnostic program, a trace program, a sort program. (T)
(2) A program designed to perform an everyday task such as copying data
from one storage device to another. (A)
